Proper French jewelry making, with the eagle head hallmark on full display: a sign of the times when jewels wore their marks like medals. Modern rings hide these stamps inside, but the French displayed them on the exterior of the band until sometime in the 1980s—pride of manufacture as decoration itself. This 10-carat emerald-cut topaz catches light in a golden shade that reads warm and rich. The stone predates the irradiation treatments that turned the market homogenous, when topaz still came in its natural variations. At 6.6 grams, this has real weight—French domestic market pieces were built solid at the time. The original Arenedaude Paris box survives, leather cracked at the corners but hinges still tight. Original jeweler's box shows expected wear at corners and hinge stress, but remains fully functional with intact Arenedaude Paris marking. The gold has been gently polished but retains the slightly softer finish characteristic of period French jewelry.
