The sphere has been a loaded symbol in jewelry since antiquity—perfection, celestial bodies, the cosmos contained. This likely mid-century interpretation scatters gemstones across a half-inch orb like constellations, each stone secure in its own eight-pointed star setting. The mixing of a rose cut diamond with brilliant cuts speaks to a transitional moment in jewelry making, when old techniques hadn't quite given way to the new. Rose gold, unfashionable for decades, was just beginning its slow return when this was made. The piece sits at that intersection of Space Age optimism and '70s craft revival.
